As you all may know Cancer is the 2nd Leading cause of Death in the U.S. Accounting for 1 out of 4 deaths. About 1,660,290 new cancer cases were expected to be diagnosed in 2013, and in 2013 about 580,350 Americans were projected to die of cancer, almost 1,600 people a day. The most common type of cancer is Breast Cancer, with about 235,000 new cases expected in the United States in 2014. Breast cancer occurs in both men and women, although male breast cancer is rare. The National Institute of Cancer estimates that in the year of 2014 there will be 232,670 cases of Breast Cancer in females, and 2,360 new cases among males. Breast Cancer related deaths are expected to reach over 40,000 for females and 430 for males in the United States.

According to U.S. Breast Cancer statistics about 1 in 8 U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. In 2013, there were more than 2.8 million women with a history of breast cancer in the U.S. This includes women currently being treated and women who have finished treatment. A woman’s risk of breast cancer approximately doubles if she has a first-degree relative (mother, sister, daughter) who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. About 15% of women who get breast cancer have a family member diagnosed with it. Shocking isn't it?

For women in the U.S., breast cancer death rates are higher than those for any other cancer, besides lung cancer. Besides skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among American women. Just under 30% of cancers in women are breast cancers. These are facts not assumptions, and the horrible reality is that someone reading this post may very well know someone that has or have died Breast Cancer.
