VCD files, also referred to as Value Change Dump files, are ASCII-based files that describe a digital waveform of the VHDL simulator. They are flexible and maneuverable files that can be easily manipulated by an experienced programmer to create simulations or be used as inputs for new simulation runs in ModelSim. They are mostly used to capture signal transitions in the ModelSim program and conduct additional analysis.

Virtual CD (VCD) file format is used to store audio information for sound files on certain types of music CDs. These files are typically created with a CD burning program to be played in stereo systems, rather than on a computer’s audio-playback program. Convert a VCD sound file to Windows Media Audio (WMA) format so it can be played on a wider range of music programs.

If you have filmed a concert on DVD or VCD, you may wish to play those songs as audio on your computer or MP3 player. Unfortunately, neither the DVD or VCD format supports automatically turning clips into MP3, even if you made the disc yourself. Several programs bridge the gap though, recording videos to MP3 as you play them.
