I Remember Lydia

By her proud Papaw 4/23/11

I remember Lydia when she was one day old.

She wasn’t very big but worth her weight in gold.

God was on her side and told angels to intervene.

She almost didn’t make it but now she is eighteen.

I remember Lydia when she was just about four.

She would leap off anything and land safely on the floor.

So I called her bouncy flouncy like on a trampoline.

She kept us all in stitches and now she is eighteen.

I remember Lydia and her very first violin.

Something about her music comes from deep within.

She would toss her bow while in her eye a gleam.

I want them to say “wow,” and now she is eighteen.

I remember Lydia and when she learned to drive.

She backed into a car and her finances took a dive.

When she’s behind the wheel she almost can’t be seen.

But she won’t let that stop her for now she is eighteen.

I’ll remember Lydia when she becomes a bride.

My heart will surely burst as it swells up with pride.

Already she’s our princess and someday someone’s queen.

She’ll always be our baby though now she is eighteen.
