It is worth repeating again and again that the bulk of America’s mainline media is owned and controlled by a mere 6 corporations. This, of course, means that unless you’re already consciously avoiding these mainline media sources, then most of the news and entertainment that makes it onto your screen and into your mind comes from a small pool of corporate sources, all of which play important roles in delivering propaganda, social programming and perpetual crisis narratives to the public.

The conglomerates are: General Electric, News Corp., Disney, Viacom, Time Warner and CBS.

All are corporations that have their own shady histories, dealings and suspicious actors. Disney being widely regarded as an occult enterprise aimed at warping the minds of children with disturbing subliminal imagery. One of these companies is also the 12th largest US military defense contractor, so it’s no surprise that so much of our entertainment centers around the glorification of war and violence.

By surveying what is available for consumption in the mass media, it is easy to see what type of society these 6 corporations are helping to construct. They have the power to warp reality by calling staged shows ‘reality’ shows. Ideas which don’t support mainstream narratives and the consumer agenda are omitted, and stories about independent people over-coming strife without dependence on government are seldom if ever elevated.

READ: 11 Tactics Used by the Mainstream Media to Manufacture Consent for the Oligarchy

The promotion of shallow, materialistic, ego-centric values, and the obvious dumbing down of the American population is coming from these 6 corporations. Think about that. These are the companies that glorify consumption, obedience, ignorance, the hyper-sexualization of youth, the glorification of war and government surveillance, and so on. The advertisers that support these media companies have tremendous sway over what makes it on the airwaves. They help to control public perception.

The bottom line is that corporate media is a behemoth of special interests and mind controllers. So much of the human story is omitted in this capitalistic, for-profit environment scheme like this, which is why now more than ever the independent, alternative media is such a gem for human kind.

The info-graphic below was produced in 2011 by FrugalDad.com, and although there have been some changes to the information since then, the landscape of American media is well represented here. Compare today to 1983 when the industry was occupied by some 50 independent media companies.

Some changes to the graphic noted by Business Insider:

NOTE: This infographic is from last year and is missing some key transactions. GE does not own NBC (or Comcast or any media) anymore. So that 6th company is now Comcast. And Time Warner doesn’t own AOL, so Huffington Post isn’t affiliated with them.

With such tremendous global reach in all forms of media communication, these corporations help to shape our world by providing coverage of our lives, analyses of our world, entertainment to pass our time and inspire our minds, and even distraction and occupation for our children.

Suspect arrested in killing of suburban Houston deputy

Associated Press

KTRK – Houston
Deputy fatally shot in northwest Harris County identified

HOUSTON (AP) — Authorities said Saturday they arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a sheriff's deputy who was gunned down from behind while filling up his patrol car at a suburban Houston gas station.

The Harris County Sheriff's office declined to give further details but said the unidentified suspect would be charged. Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman was scheduled to hold a news conference at 4:30 p.m. CDT to discuss the arrest.

Deputy Darren Goforth, 47, was pumping gas about 8:30 p.m. Friday when a man approached him from behind and fired multiple shots, continuing to fire after the deputy had fallen to the ground.

Earlier Saturday, Harris County Sheriff's Office spokesman Deputy Thomas Gilliland said officials were questioning a person of interest and had a search warrant for a two-story brick home.

Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman linked the ambush to tensions across the nation over the killings of black men by police that spawned the "Black Lives Matter" protest movement.

"Our system of justice absolutely requires a law enforcement presence to protect our community," Hickman said at a news conference earlier on Saturday. "So at any point when the rhetoric ramps up to the point where calculated cold-blooded assassination of police officers happens, this rhetoric has gotten out of control.

"We've heard Black Lives Matter, All Lives Matter. Well, cops' lives matter, too. So why don't we drop the qualifier and say lives matter."

Goforth was a 10-year veteran of the force, had a wife and two children, Hickman said. As for a motive, Hickman said that until anything is known with "certainty ... it's all speculation" but later suggested that Goforth was targeted because he was in law enforcement.

Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson called on what she described as "the silent majority in this country to support law enforcement."

"There are a few bad apples in every profession. That does not mean there should be open warfare declared on law enforcement," she said.

In a statement Saturday, Gov. Greg Abbott said "heinous and deliberate crimes against law enforcement will not be tolerated" and that the state "reveres the men and women in law enforcement who put their lives on the line every day to protect and serve their communities."

The deputy had gone to the Chevron gas station in Cypress, a middle-class to upper middle-class suburban area of Harris County that is unincorporated and located northwest of Houston, after responding to a routine car accident earlier Friday.

An impromptu memorial sprouted at the pump he had used Friday night, with a pile of balloons, flowers, candles and notes, including one that said, "Gone but never forgotten R.I.P. Deputy Goforth." The gas station was open Saturday, but that pump was closed.

Brian McCullar knew Goforth because the deputy had patrolled his neighborhood, which is about two miles from the gas station, and the two spoke often.

"He was passionate about what he did," the 49-year-old said, adding, "We're still in shock. ... It's a huge loss for his family. It's a huge loss for this area.

"You're talking about a guy that made a difference," McCullar said.

Detectives were checking security camera video for possible clues. The search for the suspect includes Harris County sheriff's deputies and homicide investigators and officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Houston Police Department.

White supremacist admits to three Kansas murders, seeks acquittal

Reuters

OLATHE, Kan. (Reuters) - A white supremacist told a jury on Friday how he killed three people, including a boy, outside two Jewish centers in Kansas last year but asked that he be found not guilty because he believed that Jews have too much power and must be stopped.

None of the victims were Jewish.

Frazier Cross, 74, a former senior member of the Ku Klux Klan who is representing himself at trial, rested his case after testifying in his own defense.

The jury will return on Monday for closing statements and to deliberate.

He could be sentenced to death if convicted in the April 2014 shootings in Overland Park, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City. He also is charged with the attempted murder of three others.

Cross is charged with killing high school student Reat Underwood, 14, and Underwood's grandfather, 69-year-old William Corporon, outside the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City, as well as Terri LaManno, 53, outside a nearby Jewish retirement home.

Cross testified he pulled up to Corporon's car in the Jewish Community Center parking lot and shot him in the head while Corporon stood looking at him.

"He showed no fear," Cross said "He had a look of resignation like 'I'm going to die. This guy is going to shoot me'."

Cross said Underwood was sitting in the vehicle and he also shot him in the head. Cross said he then drove the retirement home about a mile (1.6 km) away and shot LaManno as she stood near her vehicle.

Cross said he did not learn that none of the victims were Jewish until six says later.

"Of course, I was devastated," he testified. He also testified to believing that his adult victims were accomplices of Jews by associating with them and supporting their facilities.

Cross told the court he believes Jews have committed genocide against white people, and control both the media and Wall Street.

"I had no criminal intent, I had a patriotic intent to stop genocide against my people," said Cross, who is also known as Glenn Miller.

He said in the days before committing the murders he researched what he sees as the demise of the white race and decided he had to take action.

Prosecutors this week presented witnesses, video and forensic evidence they said connects Cross to the killings.

Thousands rally in Beirut against political leaders, rot

Thousands rally in Beirut against political leaders

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Thousands of protesters waving Lebanese flags and chanting "revolution" took to the streets of Beirut on Saturday for an unprecedented mobilization against sectarian politicians they say are incompetent and corrupt.

The "You Stink" protest campaign, ignited by a waste crisis, has widened to reflect anger at widely-perceived graft in the political class and the state's failure to provide basic services.

It is seen as the biggest protest movement in Lebanon's history organized independently of the sectarian parties that dominate politics.

"We need a revolution to free ourselves from these politicians," said Hani Abu Hamdan, a 23-year-old unemployed civil engineer.

"We want power, we want water, we don't want rubbish in the streets. We want these politicians to get lost."

Protesters mobilized after the government failed to agree on trash disposal, leaving piles of refuse stinking in the summer sun. Protesters say the crisis reflects the rot inside Lebanon's political system.

Similar protests descended into violence last weekend and Prime Minister Tammam Salam threatened to resign, a move that could tip the state struggling with political deadlock and spillover from Syria into deeper turmoil.

Protesters, including families and people of all ages marched, played music and sang as they protested in areas around Martyrs' Square, the scene mass demonstrations in 2005 after the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri.

By nightfall the area took on the atmosphere of a huge street party as soldiers watched the crowds from newly-erected barricades.

"People want the downfall of the regime" chanted groups of marching protesters, employing the slogan of mass movements that shook the Arab world in 2011.

Campaigners are calling for the environment minister to resign, for snap parliamentary elections and a resolution to the garbage crisis. They want better public services in a country with daily electricity cuts and summer water shortages.

They are also frustrated with the parliament that has extended its own term until 2017. Lebanon has been without a president for more than a year and the last parliamentary polls took place in 2009.

"YOU FAILED"

One protester held aloft a sign showing pictures of leaders of six of the main Lebanese factions reading: "We will not elect you again, and all of you means all of you."

Another sign read: "You failed in running the country, you failed in running worship, you succeeded at theft and corruption."

The garbage crisis has exposed wider political deadlock in Lebanon, where sectarian and power rivalries have been intensified by the Syrian conflict next door, more than two decades after Lebanon's own civil war.

Salah Noureddine, a Lebanese national who traveled from Britain to take part in the protest, said it was time to remove "the corrupted system we inherited after the civil war".

"If we stay at home, they will rule for another 25 years or more," he said.

Amnesty International said on Saturday Lebanon should investigate allegations that security personnel used excessive force to disperse protesters in Beirut last week, calling for restraint ahead of the new rally.

Organizers blamed last weekend's violence on "infiltrators" linked to political movements. Security forces last week fired water cannon and tear gas at demonstrators, some of whom threw stones and sticks at riot police.

Amnesty, quoting figures from the Red Cross, said at least 343 people were treated for injuries and 59 more were hospitalized last week.

First of three consecutive 'supermoons' rises Saturday night

An overcast moonrise over downtown Los Angeles, the night before supermoon. Lawrence K. Ho / Los Angeles Times

AUGUST 29, 2015, 1:54 pm

The moon will be full at precisely 2:35 p.m. Saturday, and when it rises this evening, it will be nearing its closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit -- technically making it a "supermoon."
On Sunday, the moon reaches lunar perigee, at just under 223,000 miles away from Earth. Full moons that coincide with lunar perigee have in recent years been commonly known as supermoons, though that is not a technical term in any astronomical sense.

The moon rises at about 7:37 p.m. Saturday, and with only partly cloudy skies forecast, Baltimore should get a good view.

This month's full moon is known as the Sturgeon Moon, the last full moon of summer. The Harvest Moon, a hallmark of fall’s arrival, comes Sept. 27.

The Harvest Moon could be the most dramatic full moon of the year, bringing with it a lunar eclipse that can create what is known as a "Blood Moon." The moon will be even closer to Earth at that time, at just more than 222,000 miles away and reaching perigee the next day, Sept. 28.

One more supermoon follows Oct. 27, but it will be slightly more distant than the previous two.
