Loy M. Ward

This Memorial Day I will be honoring my paternal grandfather, Loy M. Ward. He was a wonderful Baseball Player and was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals, however he never made that draft. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted and fought in World War II. Although, he never spoke a word about it, we discovered by research that he was a POW. He was actively serving his country when my father was born and did not return until my father was five years old. He received a Purple Heart for his military service. He returned home with two seperate injuries from being shot. One of those bullets stayed in his arm, until his death, when he was 84 years old.

Thank You Paw for fighting for our country!

Judy,

Thanks for the post. I am very proud of him. His dream was to be a Professional Baseball Player and it was at his fingertips...I guess that was not meant to be.

What is really amazing is that he never spoke about being drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals either. I did not know he was until after he passed away. I overheard my father and uncle talking about it is how I found out about it.
