In 1939, Edwin Sutherland , an American sociologist defined white-collar crime as: "A crime committed by a person of respectability and high social status in the course of his occupation."

The process of arresting an individual and putting them in jail is Biblical practice, in that the apostles were arrested and put in a public jail. (Acts 5:18).
