~~~OBAH (teamed up with Best Friends) and the Gulf Coast Animals Need Your Help~~~
I spoke tonight with the Emergency Response Manager, Rich Crook, from Best Friends who asked that we ready an OBAH S&R team for the Louisiana/Mississippi area once Hurricane Gustav ceases.
Rich was
in a meeting tonight with NOLA Mayor Ray Nagen who informed emergency
personnel that Hurricane Gustav is estimated to strike New Orleans in
the worst possible area....Lake Ponchetrain which means another surge
and the levees are not expected to hold!
We already have a list of addresses that have been turned in where people have evacuated and dogs are tied in the backyard, locked in homes and garages!
Gustav is already expected to be worse than Katrina!
NEEDED ASAP: Magnetic Clings for vehicles with OBAH logo (I have an email copy)
T-Shirts with OBAH on front and Search and Rescue on Back (red), preferable with names of volunteers.
There are a number of volunteer positions which are needed:
Search and Rescue Volunteers *Must be ER personnel, such as, police`fire`EMT`paramedic`vets`vet techs*
Drivers *to take one of our 15 passenger vans down with crates to bring back animals*
Media
*contact local media and tell them what OBAH's plans are with Best
Friends to get donations and foster homes set up* (ie. Morning Blend,
Channel 4.6.12.58, Local Papers, FM106 and other stations-I've got 96.5
handled)
Donation Coordinators
*Visit/Call local businesses to get donations of gas cards or
money, Call local pet stores asking for donations of food, medical
supplies, leashes, collars, essential oils, shampoo, tie outs,
crates.....anything pertinent to our needs* please advise when you
contact a specific place so we can send an email out to assure they are
not contacted again.
Tami's Assistants *to help Tami with emails and returning phone calls, approving foster homes*
**We may also need people who do not have S&R experience, but are animal lovers to be at Rescue Camp down south to care for animals**
