Gem of The Week

Don't Quit
By Edgar A. Guest*

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low, and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with it's twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow,
You may succeed with another blow.

Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,
It's when things seem worse,
That you must not quit.

Sunny Greetings from California, Nick!

Thank you for stopping by and for your post.

The picture you posted was amusing. Perhaps, the moral is: Some people survive Russian roulette, and others don't.

JoAnne, Great motivational poem and very true. In the book Think and Grow Rich, by Napolean Hill, he tells a the story of a man who borrowed money for machinery to mine gold, when the gold ran out he sold the equipment and quit. The person that bought the equipment, called in experts and vast amounts of gold was found three feet from where the vein had run out.
If you quit when things get tough it might be three feet away from your goals.

Sunny Greetings from California, Steve!

Thank you for stopping by and for your thoughtful post.

You wrote:
"If you quit when things get tough it might be three feet away from your goals." I wholeheartedly agree. It is so much easier to quit. Just think if Thomas Edison quit after only five thousand times of trying to find a way to make an incandescent light bulb, we might still be in the dark today.

It is significant, however, that Edison tried a different way every time. He did not keep trying the same thing over and over, hoping for a different result. And so should we not merely keep trying to achieve our goals, but should keep trying new and different ways to achieve them, always learning from past experiences.

Thank you for your friendship and support, Steve.

Have an Awesome Week!
