Thanks Sam,

The world's largest retailer, Wal-Mart started on a 30,000.00 loan from family, in one small store in one small town, by a small guy with big ideas. His big idea was to think small, to grow on a store by store, city by city scheme of things. From teaching his team to recognize the individual, smile and great them by name when known, and recognizing their unique needs, the plan was to make each store a extention of one's own home. It worked.

Ray Croc, left his sales job with Multi Mixer and bought a small hamburger stand from the Mc Donald brothers. Again, their personal services, a small profit scheme, where the customer was given a big burger with great flavor, in short order, with a small price tag. Instead of letting greed dictate price, they cornered the low income market and provided great tasting low cost food. Their idea was not to make more of each burger, but to sell more burgers than anyone. Mission accomplished and Mc Donald's has stood the test of time and become a multi billion dollar business 1 restaurant at a time.

These men were not rich starting out, they did not require huge sums of money or guarentee of security. They had a dream and a vision and took a risk that paid off huge rewards. Other companies like Carl's Jr. and Waterburger had to fail before success would come. Both tried to grow too fast as did K-Mart and went bankrupt, sold down stores, and streamlined operations to survive. They started big and fell hard then adopted the small game business practices that have them growing rapidly and more stable today.

Man tends to want instant success because of the fear of failure, that is why so few reach their goals and ambitions. Not because their ideas are bad, or they were bad people, but because they started wrong. They forgot that the plants must be green before flowers bloom and started with a rose with no stem.

Hello Judy,

My standard closing (and sometime opening remark) for years has been:

It's a Great Day to BE Alive!

but when I read your post after I read Sam's reply to my post, inspiration struck me. My new closing will always be:

It's A Great Day to BE Alive, create the life that you want and do it well!

How's that for bottom line?

Hello Sam,

Thank You for directing me here to see Natalya's post! Natalya that is so sweet of you! Thank YouSmiley

Reading through this thread, I have to say Andrew, Wonderful post! You spell it out loud and clear, Bigger is not always better!

John, your new closing line reminded me of a poem that I wrote a while ago over at my corner, Sam I hope you don't mind if I share it here...

I've Built My Own Destiny...

I dreamed of being an author

so I published all my books
I dreamed of being a model
so... I used my looks

I dreamed of saving children
so I rescued many lives
I dreamed of being married
so I became my husbands wife

I dreamed I was an English Poet
so I wrote poetry all day long
I dreamed I was a singer
so I recorded all my songs

I dreamed of having an audience
so I began to entertain
I dreamed of being rich
so I began to gain

I began to build my destiny
and I know just where I'm going
I know just where I want to be
and it feels real good just knowing,

Now I'm rich beyond my wildest dreams
not financially, thats true,
but wealthy in achievements
and Rich with friends like you!
