Thanks Sam,
The world's largest retailer, Wal-Mart started on a 30,000.00 loan from family, in one small store in one small town, by a small guy with big ideas. His big idea was to think small, to grow on a store by store, city by city scheme of things. From teaching his team to recognize the individual, smile and great them by name when known, and recognizing their unique needs, the plan was to make each store a extention of one's own home. It worked.
Ray Croc, left his sales job with Multi Mixer and bought a small hamburger stand from the Mc Donald brothers. Again, their personal services, a small profit scheme, where the customer was given a big burger with great flavor, in short order, with a small price tag. Instead of letting greed dictate price, they cornered the low income market and provided great tasting low cost food. Their idea was not to make more of each burger, but to sell more burgers than anyone. Mission accomplished and Mc Donald's has stood the test of time and become a multi billion dollar business 1 restaurant at a time.
These men were not rich starting out, they did not require huge sums of money or guarentee of security. They had a dream and a vision and took a risk that paid off huge rewards. Other companies like Carl's Jr. and Waterburger had to fail before success would come. Both tried to grow too fast as did K-Mart and went bankrupt, sold down stores, and streamlined operations to survive. They started big and fell hard then adopted the small game business practices that have them growing rapidly and more stable today.
Man tends to want instant success because of the fear of failure, that is why so few reach their goals and ambitions. Not because their ideas are bad, or they were bad people, but because they started wrong. They forgot that the plants must be green before flowers bloom and started with a rose with no stem.
