Congratulation Mr. Obama and to your family who will bring children back into the white house!

I was able to listen to Senator McCain's and Senator Obama's speeches on NPR (I don't have Television) and they both brought tears to my eyes.

But I didn't know how wonderful the Obama family looked - so radient and happy - I am so looking forward to having them as our FIRST FAMILY!

It is nice to read your piece in appreciation of the American Presdient-elect and his dear family.

Yes, that speech was listened to, and watched by the whole world and in my part of the world, thousands defied sleep to have a first hand result of the American Presidential election result and when it came, we all couldn't hold back the tears of joy. We are happy for America and hope the rest of the world especially our dear continent Africa can learn from America stride.

If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.

It's the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches in numbers this nation has never seen; by people who waited three hours and four hours, many for the very first time in their lives, because they believed that this time must be different; that their voice could be that difference.

It's the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled – Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America.

It's the answer that led those who have been told for so long by so many to be cynical, and fearful, and doubtful of what we can achieve to put their hands on the arc of history and bend it once more toward the hope of a better day.

It's been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this day, in this election, at this defining moment, change has come to America.

I just received a very gracious call from Senator McCain. He fought long and hard in this campaign, and he's fought even longer and harder for the country he loves. He has endured sacrifices for America that most of us cannot begin to imagine, and we are better off for the service rendered by this brave and selfless leader. I congratulate him and Governor Palin for all they have achieved, and I look forward to working with them to renew this nation's promise in the months ahead.

I want to thank my partner in this journey, a man who campaigned from his heart and spoke for the men and women he grew up with on the streets of Scranton and rode with on that train home to Delaware, the Vice President-elect of the United States, Joe Biden.

I would not be standing here tonight without the unyielding support of my best friend for the last sixteen years, the rock of our family and the love of my life, our nation's next First Lady, Michelle Obama. Sasha and Malia, I love you both so much, and you have earned the new puppy that's coming with us to the White House. And while she's no longer with us, I know my grandmother is watching, along with the family that made me who I am. I miss them tonight, and know that my debt to them is beyond measure.

To my campaign manager David Plouffe, my chief strategist David Axelrod, and the best campaign team ever assembled in the history of politics – you made this happen, and I am forever grateful for what you've sacrificed to get it done.

Dear Mr Obama,

it was a great joy to know about you, read about you and to share the wisdom and grace which comes from your heart. People can build the gates of hell to belittle you, but the arm of the Lord is stronger than all the shadows of hating P's.

We love you bcs you also love us and we will continue to share a common ideal with you. We here in Italy are far away from you, but we made sure our families voted for you, bcs all wanted to be a part of this great story, this great history? Never look back, but move on, look towards your goals, and not look at the evil that beseech you.

You letter to Obama is quite interesting and hope-rekindled.
I know it is one thing to have victory in an election of American Presidential magnitude and another thing to make the needed impression during governance especially in Obama's situation.
He'll definitely be under pressure to perform and bring about his much talk about 'change' to the generality of American people and the rest of the world.

He'll need our prayers, first prayer of survival and then that of devine wisdom.

I can't tell you HOW HAPPY I AM AT THE ELECTION OF OUR NEXT OUTSTAND PRESIDENT! Even my GOP sister and husband shared positive statements the other night. They said Obama was "our President" and they would stand by him. Boy was I surprised!!

I've always loved Stevie Wonder's music. It's fitting that Senator Obama chose "SIGNED, SEALED, DELIVERED" as his theme song!

Obama won President of USA!!! 2008!!

Thank God, we did it!! It was so wonderful to watch the news this morning and see a mixture of happy faces with tears of joy.

I would like to say that the speech John McCain gave last night after his defeat was the best he gave during his entire campaign. For once, he showed a feel of compassion and humility. If he had followed this course during his campaign, perhaps he might have won. America is suffering and tired of wars and fighting. America is wounded economically. We must unite to bring our country back to the Great Nation it is.

I also listened to Senator McCain's concession speech, it was beautifully rendered with an awesome spirit of sportmanship and humility. One thing nobody can take away from the honorable Senator is his reputation just like Senator Obama himself described him in his victory speech. He is and remain a great American, one that fights to the end!!

Below are some excepts from McCain's speech:

In a contest as long and difficult as this campaign has been, his success alone commands my respect for his ability and perseverance. Hello Sammy,

Thank you for your beautiful presentation. I hate to admit it but presidential elections never seem to excite me. I just always voted my party, because I still held out hope that one vote does count. It just never seems to matter one way or the other who is president. Obama made himself known to us in a way that no one has ever done while running the race. He has made believers of lot people.

This time was different. I enjoyed watching the coverage and the debates. This marked the first time that I have actually gotten my family members out. Everyone was just so apathetic.

The world has just gotten a shot of joy.

I'm not here to spoil your celebration and joy! ... and yes, this elections showed a wonderful leap ... which I had no doubt humanity reached! Maybe this is why I'm not quite that excited LOL
It is not about OBAMA, but about any POLITICIAN/POLITICIANS!
Simply I cannot believe in any of them! ... so often they spoiled people expectations and broke their own PROMISES!

forgive me for attending to your post this late, I hope you also agree that "it's better late than not at all". Thanks a lot for joining us in this thread.

I quite understand what you mean about politicians. I am in that part of the world that lies and unfulfilled promises are the politcian's stock in trade. We have not yet record a truly reliable and perfect leader and so it is difficult to trust an of them.

However, the case of Obama is probably less of the political angle than history which is why the whole world in excitedly intereted even when most of us have little or nothing to gain from the man.

Obama has been preaching change to every American and infact, the whole world so we want to see what he can do now that the euphoria of his election is gradually dying down. Let's hope for the best.

Hello Lucy, Sorry for the late response to your post, I have been really busy recently. You wrote: "I hate to admit it but presidential elections never seem to excite me. I just always voted my party,.......it just never seems to matter one way or the other who is president. Obama made himself known to us in a way that no one has ever done while running the race. Pat, I like the cat one the best, but you know we have include those dear little mutes too.. lol I love them all.

I don't know when I have seen so much excitement for an election, and rightly so, with the way the world is we need so much change. The first change should be to love each other, more then ever before, because Love is The only Answer.

There is going to be so many changes coming to us all. Wonderful things, so just love each other more and more each day, lets get this planet rocketing with LOVE. Hold on to your hats because it is going to be great ride.

- President-elect Barrack Obama and his wife took their daughters to work at a food bank on the day before Thanksgiving, saying they wanted to show the girls the meaning of the holiday, especially when so many people are struggling.

Ten-year-old Malia and 7-year-old Sasha joined their parents to shake hands and give holiday wishes to hundreds of people who had been lined up for hours at the food bank on Chicago 's south side.

Sasha wore a pink stocking hat over her pigtails and Malia had on a purple striped hat as the family handed out wrapped chickens to the needy in the chilly outdoor courtyard. Those seeking food on Wednesday at St. Columbanus also received boxes with potatoes, oranges, fresh bread, peanut butter, canned goods, oatmeal, spaghetti and coffee.
The president-elect, dressed casually in a leather jacket, black scarf and khaki pants, was in a jovial mood, calling out "happy thanksgiving" and telling everyone "you can call me Barack."

He told reporters that he wants the girls "to learn the importance of how fortunate they are, and to make sure they're giving back."
The soon-to-be first lady said the Obamas wanted to give their children "an understanding of what giving and Thanksgiving is all about."

The Obama family's activities in the courtyard quickly drew the attention of schoolchildren whose windows overlooked the courtyard. They put up a sign against the glass that read: "We love our prez" and screamed when the president-elect waved to them.

Obama then turned to his wife and suggested they go visit the kids. Secret Service agents, looking surprised, disappeared inside the building to accommodate his request.
Minutes later, hundreds of children were brought down to the school auditorium, and Obama loped onstage as they screamed and cheered.

"I just wanted to come by and wish everybody a happy Thanksgiving," he said. He then asked the children what they would be eating for Thanksgiving dinner.

So lets recap.
He took his kids to work in the cold…? Instead of getting someone to line up and dish the gifts? Instead of telling them 'You are kids of a VIP. Therefore there are things that you can’t do. Not a bad start for Presido.

Signatures of Virtue. How true. On November 4,2008 the Silent Majority spoke, no, we did not speak, we Shouted for the whole World to hear. There are many that say that this was a wrong choice, that Senator Obama does not have the experience to lead our country. Quite the contrary, President Elect Obama has more experience than any other president that went before him. He has the experience of knowing what it is like to be different, he has the experience of knowing what it is like to doing without, and he has the unigue experience of knowing what it is like to live in two worlds, both black and white. We finally have, after so many years, a President that knows how we feel inside. Therefore he has much more knowledge about who WE THE PEOPLE really are than any other president ever. I was especially proud when he said, "I did not win this election, you did." I feel that there will be a lot of wonderful changes ahead for all of us. Not just Americans, but every country in the world. People, no matter what their color or culture will finally be treated with respect and dignity as they should have been treated for so very, very, long. Isn'tit nice to know that those mega rich people that used to run this country are now the minority rather than the majority? There will be many over the coming months that will shout and scream and make accusations, however it won't matter because they will soon learn that people don't listen to minorities. That is, not until now. No matter what Race, Creed, or Color you are, be Proud of who you are because this election was won by all, not just a select few.

There was a story recently about a bus load of Special needs people that were brought to the polls to cast their vote, saying that it was ridiculous to bring people in that were not physically able to do it themselves. Ridiculous to deny a person to vote because of a handicap? Are they not also Americans? Don't they have the same rights as the rest of us? The reason that this election worked was because for once, no one, regardless of their physical or mental handicaps were denied the right to vote. The GOOD GUYS don't always finish last.

You have vividly captured the central bud of the American dream! Unfortunately, I am not given to politics and whenever I see one I tried to go under except jus a couple of interjections. I did read all sort of negative things about the president-elect in the media especially in the internet including our community here that set me thinking if USA is really what it is profess to the larger world. But now I know better and I am relieved that most of those derogatory insinuations were being conjured to smear and bring down Obama by the supposed influential minority. Now the people have spoken and this singular act has change the world's political perception forever.
