Come into Mother Earth’s Garden and Share Her Beauty and Abundance

This is one way of seeing the world.

God created and planted the first seeds.

Mother Earth and Mother Nature are the Whole Mother.

Mother Nature was born and Mother Earth is Her womb. From the womb all living things are produced and reproduced.

The Earth we live on is Mother Earth’s garden. We all share in tending this garden. It is a beautiful garden over all, even though it has its wild patches and untended patches.

God put man on the Earth to act as his servants, to take care of the Earth. We all have our part to play. Some of us are more creative, some are more physical and so on, but we all share in the tending of the wonderful garden.

Co-operation between angelic beings and men play an important part in doing God’s bidding and to help in the task of looking after Mother Earth’s garden. Practical help of angelic intelligences, and the spirits of nature, is available in all work which is designed and performed for the purpose of helping others and of serving the world.

“The various kingdoms of Nature are their field of evolution. We find them in the woods, by the flowers of the meadow and the garden, in water, in air, in fire, in earth, as well as associated with the metals and jewels of the mineral kingdom. Wherever the divine life is manifest, there are God’s faerie children, the nature-spirits, and their elder brethren, the angels, who are shining and beautiful embodiments of His life.” (Geoffrey Hodson)

Together with the angels’ help we are doing and can continue to do Mother proud. We can all try to do our bit. Geoffrey goes on to say: “All those who are engaged in work for the amelioration of human conditions, in whatsoever department of life, may sagely invoke the aid of the mighty races of the angelic hosts. An increase in vitality, virility, and effectiveness, beyond all human commensuration, will most certainly result from this invocation. The work will become almost infinitely far-reaching, for it will be performed in spiritual, mental, and moral regions, as well as in the purely physical world, and we shall have the angels as agents and co-workers there to inspire and strengthen all our efforts by their wisdom and their resistless power and their love.”

On a personal level, I love to make the garden a welcoming place for our guests. I love nurturing plants in the greenhouse and then putting them in the garden or veg patches, or in pots, or the window boxes, and so on. We have planted many trees (hundreds). To watch them grow is like watching our children grow. We actually take some pride in them. I suppose you could say that we share in Mother Nature’s and Mother Earth’s pride.

Here are some snapshots of my garden.

This is a spot of our garden in front of the house

I call this Rose Bench Corner

The tree on the right is a plum tree that I grew from a plum stone. The stone came from a red plum which I had picked from the tree by our terrace and front entrance to the house. The plums that grow on my little plum tree here are yellow and delicious.

The little shrub next to the bench was grown from a cutting that I took from a friend's shrub. Her name was also Sarah and her surname was Two. So, I call this plant "Sarah Two."

This is Harry Potter, doing what he enjoys most, that is
relaxing in the shade under the bushes.

You can see that in summer the grass is not very green due to the sun.

This is Raymonde practising her serve in the garden.

These red rose bushes have flowers on them all year round. We all planted them together in what was the children's sand pit. This picture was taken in the evening and the flowers at the base of the bushes have all closed up for the night and so cannot be seen. The plum tree behind the roses gives beautiful plums very similar to victoria plums.

How to Grow Asparagus by Hans Dekker Asparagus is a perennial plant with erect, edible stems and tiny branches that bear even tinier flowers that become red berries that contain the black Asparagus seed. Formerly in the Liliaceae family, botanists have realized that Asparagus is in a class by itself and have repositioned its 120 species in the Asparagaceae genus. Asparagus is a high-end gourmet food item, but if you know how to grow asparagus, it becomes an inexpensive way to add a delicate flavor to your meals. Knowing how to grow asparagus dates back 2500 years ago when it was first cultivated in Greece. In fact, asparagus is from the Greek word for stalk or shoot. Long before it was used as a food item, asparagus was lauded for its medicinal properties. There are many reasons to grow asparagus. Once an asparagus bed is established, asparagus is the first vegetable that is table ready in the springtime and will provide your family with a firm and fresh vegetable treat for up to 20 years, each crown in your bed producing up to ½ pound of spears per year. Although supermarkets stock both canned and frozen asparagus, neither compares to the unique flavor you get from freshly harvested and picked asparagus. As asparagus plants grow, they produce a mat of long, tubular roots that spreads horizontally rather than vertically. This one-year-old root system is called the asparagus crown. Although asparagus can be started from seed, it’s most often begun from transplanting crowns purchased from a reputable crown grower. Those who wish to learn how to grow Asparagus must have an abundance of patience, since it takes an asparagus bed three years to be established from crowns. The second year of growth, asparagus ferns emerge with a few spindly spears. At the third year, although your bed will produce thicker and more robust spears, they shouldn’t be harvested for more than one month to allow roots and crowns to become further established. Plant asparagus crowns in a trench that is one to two feet wide. Set the crowns up to six inches deep and nine to twelve inches apart. Asparagus grows easily in any well-drained soil. Found growing wild on English riverbanks, the delicate asparagus ferns were nicknamed “sparrow grass”. However, asparagus allowed to stand in water develops root rot, which can quickly destroy a complete bed. Asparagus roots have a tendency to “rise” as the bed matures. Gardeners typically add soil to the rows of a mature asparagus bed to keep the crowns undercover. Thanks for this contribution.

We eat a lot of asparagus.

My husband has helped the local asparagus farmer from time to time and was rewarded with lots of asparagus. It's rather back-breaking work and you have to be careful not to damage the asparagus.

I froze a lot. When I take it out of the freezer I put it straight in the steamer.

I don't think I'd like to eat it raw!

I prefer green asparagus.

My third son, who is very tall and slim is known as "Asperge" (French for asparagus!)

The owl is magnificent. We used to have one just like it in our barn.

He would fly about in the dark, looking like a ghost.

One of our neighbours had a whole family in their attack and we would sneak up and watch them. The funny fluffy babies were so sweet.

I see what you mean about that fertilizer! Polly & Loupio provide quite an amount between them and that is just two beasts.

Raymonde & Isabelle love the unicorn.

They both immediately got their flying horses out and groomed them.

When I go out and about (when I go shopping for example), I often see the mountains in front of me like this. It reminds me to be thankful for where I live and for nature's beauty all around me.

Yes, this is enchanting.

I have a lantern in my kitchen just like this one, but I've never seen a pixie in it.

What a shame!

At first I didn't notice the toad (or is it a frog?).

Is this what we find at the end of a rainbow.

When I was visiting Scotland by Loch Ness, there were some beautiful rainbows as we were driving along.

Didn't ever find the end of any of them, but last week, driving back from Pamiers, I actually saw the end of the rainbow, in a maize field.

So, there is 'gold' at the end of the rainbow!

I think it is not a rainbow but the Northern Lights. It's an amazing phenomenon too.

Yes, in front of the big fairy it's a frog but it seems like a bush or something!

I always like images of nature combined with these creatures we call fairies. May be they exist and we cannot see them.

Yes, I believe you are right.

I went off to Wikipedia and checked up on the colouring of the Northern Lights:

Auroras (or aurorae) [sing: aurora] are natural colored light displays, which are usually observed in the night sky, particularly in the polar zone. Some scientists therefore call them "polar auroras" (or "aurorae polaris").

In northern latitudes, it is known as the aurora borealis, named after the Roman goddess of the dawn, Aurora, and the Greek name for north wind, Boreas. It often appears as a greenish glow (or sometimes a faint red), as if the sun were rising from an unusual direction. The aurora borealis is also called the northern lights, as it is only visible in the North sky from the Northern Hemisphere. The aurora borealis most often occurs from September to October and from March to April.

Its southern counterpart, aurora australis, has similar properties. Australis is the Latin word for "of the South".

I agree with you about the fairyfolk. They are delightful and seem to be an integral part of nature. I think they exist in various forms.

Bonsoir. My daddy saw the northern light when in the Navy. He said they were breathtaking. I've only seen them on movies and although beautiful on the screen I'll bet they are a million times better when seen in person.

I think that is why they tell us to stop and smell the roses. We get so busy that beauty passes us by. The rose is gone before we can even notice the beautiful scent and form.

You are so right. As I put in one of the posts above, we tend to get rather blazé about the beauty around us.

We have an American gentleman staying with us, in the gite, for a while. He has just bought a house in Molandier, not far from us. While he's having some work done on it, he's staying with us. He bought the house for the views.

We went to see the house the other day and I could see why. I took some photos but haven't had a chance to put them on my puter yet.

On the journey to his house through the countryside, as a passenger in his car, I was able to appreciate more, Nature's beauty. When one is the driver one has to concentrate on the road, but as a passenger I could soak it all up. What a lovely, peaceful Sunday afternoon I enjoyed, soaking up Nature's bounty.

Not fantastic like the Northern Lights, but wonderfully peaceful.

I'm going to make a big effort to stop and smell the roses and watch the butterflies.

It won the photo fun competition. I was so pleased. That meant that I won two weeks running with photos of my visit to Bunratty, in the Emerald Isle.

Lovely to see you here.

I think they must be 'rain' deer. It was raining almost all the time that we were in Ireland. I'm surprised that I got so many lovely photos. The rain doesn't really show up in any of them.

I'm pleased with my new camera. It's got anti-shake on it too which is useful for me as I shake a lot and much of the time!!!

Gosh your pic is lovely but made me go cold. It snowed here a little yesterday.

I'm not a snow person. It's lovely to see it in pics like this and in the distance on the mountains.

I am a sun person, myself. If the snow lays here it isn't usually very thick, but if it is thick, the sun usually comes out and very quickly melts it away (and I sigh with relief).

The garden looks pretty with the snow, I must admit. I usually run out, take a couple of pics and then run back in and stay in, if poss til it has gone away.

Pathetic creature, I hear you cry!! LOL

I get cold very quickly!

Hello Myrna,

Loupio is actually a male, but yes, he does get spoiled as do all our animals.

The cats are all lying on my bed at the moment. I battled for ages to keep them off but they won!!! Harry Potter actually cuddles up to my feet at night (much to my husband's displeasure!).

We have to be careful with Loupio because he tries to give you a kiss, but ends up nipping you and it really hurts. He loves cuddles. We have to give Polly the pony cuddles at the same time or she gets jealous. We have to feed them at the same time too or a battle commences. You were right; the Rose Waltz is so beautiful.

The unicorn is lovely too. We have a pony called Polly. Raymonde wanted me to put a horn on Polly to turn her into a unicorn! When I said that that wouldn't be very comfortable for Polly, Raymonde asked:

"Can you get us a real unicorn then?"

Now wouldn't that be lovely!

"I am the Voice" was a very apt choice of Georgios.

Both of these videos were super. I'm only on dial-up and it takes absolutely ages for the videos to load (I go off and prepare a meal or do some gardening!) and then come back to watch them. Both of these wonderful videos were well worth the bother.

Music is a great way of sharing, and accompanying the images.

Natural music of the birds in the garden and our copse is delightful too. Despite having three cats, we have many birds in our garden. Such a delight to see and hear.

I'm sure that with the love and attention you give it, your mother's garden will be another beautiful spot for celebrating Mother Earth's garden. From little seeds.......

As I've mentioned above, my Daddy's oak tree is doing well. It was so tiny when I planted it, but I give it a lot of attention and love. The rose bed that I did with my first five children is still doing wonderfully. The red roses are still blooming in December.

Originating from Western culture, where the holiday is characterized by the exchange of gifts among friends and family members, some of the gifts are attributed to a character called Santa Claus (also known as Father Christmas, Saint Nicholas or St. Nikolaus, Sinterklaas, Kris Kringle, Joulupukki, Weihnachtsmann, Saint Basil and Father Frost).

Hello Everyone,

I see that I've got to catch up with some guests.

I've been gardening, would you believe.

Pruning and cutting and taking plants in that have to go inside for the winter.

I've got one lemon tree that I haven't found space for yet. It has got so big.

I grew two lemon trees from pips.

They are in big pots. I put them in the garden in April or May and they go indoors in November.

As we've got our American guest staying in the gite, I don't know where to put the second tree. One has gone in the aparment and this one usually goes in the gite.

I have got the caravan.

Do you think it would be ok in the caravan?

I can't put it in the kitchen because I've put the avacado tree in there (which I grew from a stone). The lemon tree would be rather big and in the way anyway.

Thanks for the roses.

Someone came in my garden the other day and admired my red roses. They were amazed that they were still flowering.

I explained that they flower all year round. Perhaps it's because the children and I actually made that bed together and planted the roses. Perhaps there is some family magick and love going on in that bit of the garden!

If we get snow, it's a lovely sight with the red roses and the white snow.

Here are a few more photos of a park we visited in England, Mote Park, Maidstone.

Someone had left a baker's tray full with stale sliced loaves next to one of the park benches by the lake. Isabelle, Verity and Raymonde are using some of it to give the birds and ducks a treat.

Demelza wasn't actually doing some sort of tribal dance! She was just launching some bread as far across the lake as poss!

Urban Parks

The Problem

Urban parks provide a range of benefits to communities, ranging from air and water purification to building a sense of community. Recreation opportunities in parks can help to reduce crime by offering young people activities to fill their time and building skills and self esteem. Green spaces can help attract new businesses and jobs, increase property values, and generally contribute to a better quality of life for the surrounding community. Unfortunately, in many metropolitan areas, parks and recreation opportunities are concentrated in affluent and suburban neighborhoods, while low-income, inner-city communities have inadequate and severely overcrowded public parks that offer far fewer recreational programs.

Who Is Affected?

The neighborhoods most in need of recreation opportunities and open space generally have the least parkland, the fewest facilities, and the greatest difficulties maintaining them as safe havens. Although elected officials generally declare their support for parks and recreation programs, more and better services are available to residents of suburban areas than to those who live in less affluent rural and urban areas. The single largest source of funding for parks, the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund, has faced substantial cuts in recent years, and funding for urban parks has taken a back seat to other programs as many cities struggle with reduced tax revenues and tight budgets.

What You Can Do

Work to improve conditions at your local park by joining or starting a friends of the park organization. You can find a guide to starting a park friends group on the Brookline Greenspace Alliance web site.

Look for resources through your local government or community redevelopment programs to turn an empty lot in your neighborhood into a park or community garden. Find out more about how to start a community garden from the American Community Gardening Association.

Find out where your elected officials stand on urban parks issues by attending town meetings or writing letters. You can also look for information from national and state groups that track the environmental voting records of elected officials such as the League of Conservation Voters or your state conservation voter league.

I live in hope that our message will get through.

Yes, we'll keep on plugging and showing by example.

One form of pollution is litter. I get cross with people who leave their litter, quite unnecessarily. So often, I see fast food boxes, sweet wrappers, plastic packaging etc. on park benches, where there are litter bins just a few feet away. Why are people so thoughtless and so lazy?

As people drive along, they throw litter out of their windows, or while they are walking, they just drop their litter on the streets or in the parks.

Whilst walking down by the London Embankment, I noticed so much litter floating in the Thames. It is a crime against Mother Nature and Mother Earth.

Oh dear! I'd better stop.

As I said earlier, it just takes little gestures on everyone's part.

Notre-Dame de Paris, pour les Parisiens Notre-Dame, est la cathédrale de l'archidiocèse catholique de Paris.

Notre-Dame de Paris n'est pas la plus grande des cathédrales françaises, mais elle est indiscutablement une des plus remarquables qu'ait produites l'architecture gothique en France et fut lors de son achèvement la plus grande cathédrale de la chrétienté. Ce chef-d'œuvre, l'un des symboles les plus connus de la capitale française, est situé à l'extrémité de l'île de la Cité, centre historique de la ville, tout près des berges de la Seine. Sa façade occidentale domine le parvis Notre-Dame - place Jean-Paul II. Une plaque de bronze incrustée dans le sol sert de point zéro de toutes les distances des routes à partir de Paris.

La construction, commencée sous le règne de Louis VII par l'évêque Maurice de Sully, a duré de 1163 à 1345. À cette époque, Paris n'était qu'un évêché, suffragant de l'archevêque de Sens.
C'est ici que Napoléon Ier se sacra empereur des Français, en présence du pape Pie VII, le 2 décembre 1804.

What a gorgeous forum,there are so many beautiful pictures. I can't offer any graphics but I do have some gorgeous photos I've taken.

Most recently this is a red kangaroo paw that was in the garden of the cottage my partner and I stayed in on a holiday I won. I'm not sure if this will work or not, I hope it does because they are a beautiful plant that now comes in a large variety of colours.

Where I live in Victoria, Australia we are in a drought and have been for about 5 years now, so people are looking for plants which give colour to their gardens but use little water as we have water restrictions at the moment.

I do believe Jamie Drurie who is a garden designer and has had a lot of TV shows on the subject here is creating an Australian Native Display at the Chelsea Garden show this year. He is extraordinarily talented and worth checking out if you live near there.

The photo worked and is a great addition to Mother Earth's Garden.

We sometimes have drought water restriction times too. So, we look for plants that aren't going to need too much water.

The soil in our garden dries out very quickly and cracks too. When it rains the water lies on the top of the soil and can drown the plants. It doesn't soak down very well. When there isn't any rain it dries out very quickly, as the water hasn't had a chance to soak down into the soil. We try to collect rain water and use washing up water, but in a big garden like ours, it is time consuming and takes a lot of water.

That is a lovely plant.

Hello friends of Mother Earth!

I was in the garden planting pansies in pots and window boxes. The sun was shining brightly.

I noticed that I had a lot of weeding to do. The clay soil here may not be very good for growing plants, trees, shrubs, flowers or vegetables, but those weeds grow at a tremendous rate.

I had to abandon the garden and go do something else.

As I was driving back from collecting the twins from the school bus, there was a French song playing (I actually wrote “French record”—showing my age!). Roughly translated, the words to the song are:

She is yours, but you will lose her if you leave her there without taking care of her.

That got me thinking about the weeds in my garden which I must attend to, before they take over.

In turn, that got me thinking about the bigger “weeds” in Mother Earth’s Garden.

If we leave her without taking care of her we will “lose” her too. The weeds will take over. What a legacy for our children.

Friends, lets get weeding and taking care of Her before she is lost.

Well, that's my thought for today. It was difficult to type as Isabelle and I were sharing cuddles! What a great pleasure that is.
