Introduction

Hello, my name is Adriadne Oliver. Is my hat straight? Sorry, I do worry about these things. Oh, you don’t remember me? I am Agatha Christie’s alter ego. Dame Christie was author of Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot mysteries. I am not as prim and proper as Miss Marple but I love writing mysteries. They asked me to introduce the Poet for April 2008. I have a problem with this – why me?? Just because it is April and April begins with April Fool’s Day!! Well, here goes.

I invite you to come and read poems by this unfortunate soul. Perhaps there is a glimmer of hope somewhere in these adventurous writings but I will leave that to your opinion. To say I take pleasure would be a stretch too far, so I will just say – from one klutz to another, here she is, April 2008 Poet for the month presenting some of her works.

This month I will be bringing some of my poems from my 49 years as a native Alabaman and the past l7 spent in Kansas. Without my poetry I would never have made it this far in life. This month I start out with one I wrote recently. The ones to be featured are some not presented in Adlandpro nor exposed much publicly. I hope you enjoy them and will join with me in a Celebration of Life – April is my birth month as well as many of my friends. Let’s all have a big Birthday Party for all those with April birthdays!!

April is a favorite time of year

When April showers bring May flowers

And from the soil lovely blooms appear;

The smell of jonquils and wisteria

Bring about a state of hysteria.

Hyacinths, Easter Lilies, Jessamine

Fill the air with fragrance sublime

In the forest white begins to glow

It’s time for Dogwoods to make their show.

As winter gloom begins to digress.

Nature is bursting with grace

As April takes her place.

The faeries begin celebrating

All the wonders of early Spring.

Hearts are lifted in jubilation

As our souls are filled with admiration.

EARLY MORNING VISITOR

Early this morning with clouds in the sky,

A sprinkle of rain and lightning in the air,

I stepped outside just long enough to pick

a bloom from the Four O'clock and catch

a sniff of its delicate fragrance.

When, suddenly a movement caught my eye.

There upon the power line, perched up high

sat a very large bird. I stood still and awestruck,

holding my breath lest he should fly.

He stretched his thick neck up and down,

and as his large head moved, he made a rattling sound.

I could see his large beak moving with each clatter.

His topnotch feathers were bending in the wind

and in the dim light, I could see a wide white band.

I knew here in the prairie, it could only be one thing.

But the clucking was much like the sound of a toucan.

He sat with short legs and turned to look at me.

And I watched in wonderment and glad I got to see,

this early morning visitor dressed in blue.

To this Belted Kingfisher clucking loud to me,

"Thank you for the visit and good morning to you!"

As if in acknowledgement, he spread his wings to fly

off toward the trees in a cheerful reply!

Hi dear Sara,

I have never doubted your intelect and finesse. I see it in your articles, in your creative website and in all your posts.

These POEMS are just wonderful. The message they proclaim cannot be done better. I love SOULS, it sets me on that path of self realization, the dreams of my today and my tomorrow!. Personally, I have written a coule of articles on "growing old" and "Life for Tomorrow"

Thanks for sharing such great works, they are as amazing as yourself.

Hello Sara!

When God decided to spread the word, wisdom and knowledge, he called the people and He gave some people the charisma to puzzle with words, to shape, create and share with us good and bad moments of our life.
I was too busy with other things and I wasn't there so I could not get any of thit spirit. Some of my friends in this but also in other communitiew write poems and I gladly read them and trying to understand the message. I wish I could write too. I admire all of you writing poems.

Keep up the good work.

I dedicate you and all our spiritual friends writers and poets the oldest known ancient complete music. Played in Greek Kithara-lyre. It is not what we are used to listen, but worthy to know.

About 2000 years after it was written, this melody was rediscovered in 1883, in its complete & original form. It was found inscribed in marble on an ancient Greek burial stele, bearing the following epitaph:
"I am a portrait in stone. I was put here by Seikilos, where I remain forever, the symbol of timeless remembrance".

The song in English
While you live, shine

I don't have the charisma to write poems.

Thank you so much, Judy!! You may be one of very few who actually catch the 'jest' of all this. One of my favorite books in which Adriadne appears is called "Halloween Party" by Agatha Christie. She is always dropping apples and messing up her hair.

However, if plans work out I hope to have my own mystery available in the near future. Please pray for me if you will to finally get it in book form.

Soon will be the time for those high school and college reunions and this one was written for such an event. Hope you enjoy and can empathize.

Chest of Memories

There was an old chest

in the attic of memories,

it beckoned to be opened

and we gladly did the chore.

What burst forth from there

will last forevermore.

Coming into view was an old white building,

the old school house we all know

And on each side of the front steps

stood cedar trees their green all aglow.

The front doors opened and from inside

came the sound of a loud bell ring.

At once the halls were full of children

heading for the lunchroom pushing and shoving.

Ignoring the teachers’ shout for order and quiet,

they ran toward the smell of food.

They pushed, poked, jabbed

and made as much noise as they could.

The smell from the lunchroom told a tale of its own,

reaching our noses and drifting from the skies

Came a smell so familiar we knew it was Friday

for it was Hotdogs and French fries!

From the stairs on each side of the great hall

came the junior and senior high school

It was their time to rest from class

and break the golden rule.

There are just too many memories

to recall them all

Each one of us has our favorite ones

of time spent within these walls.

As the Chest lid is closed

and memories put back in place.

We can look around us now

and try to find a familiar face.

For time has left its mark

and memories have begun to fade

But we can always open the Chest of Memories

and among its treasures wade.

Life has not always been joyful and free from stress. After a divorce is a tragic time for anyone, especially if you gave it many years and then that part of your life is gone. These feelings don't go away quickly as many of you know. My good friend at the time brought this one out. You can probably guess we don't still stay in touch.

The One With The Tear

Catch a star

Way up in the sky.

Can you catch it

Or will it pass you by?

Follow your dreams

As far as you can

Will they come true

As you planned?

Dream your dreams

Make your plans

Catch your star.

Set your goals for straight ahead

And carry them far.

No time for losing when you’re moving ahead,

Running through life at a happy pace, never sad.

No time for that – you’re the lucky one

Everything’s yours!

The moon, the stars, and the sun.

When you are a fortunate one God smiles on you.

You’re always happy and carefree, never blue.

People love you because of the smile on your face.

Oh, and you’re just so happy, winning each race!

You’ve never known what it’s like to lose

Not when you’ve had everything you chose.

Those people are silly, the ones with the tears.

Why, you’ve never shed but one or two all these years.

Why should you? You’ve had it all, and more.

To help those sad ones find a little light in life

I wonder if God’s smile will fade when He sees you

Pass on by those poor souls that are so blue.

Somehow I believe He expected you to

Reach out and tell them when you knew.

To help some others find the way and start anew.

See, all of us have a responsibility to each other.

We need to help ourselves, but also our brother.

You left her standing there with the tear in her eye.

How could you not reach out and lend a hand, and try

To bring her back to her feet and really care.

She was delicate thing, and so fair.

If she fails will her blood be on you?

If she gives up, will God forgive you?

She’s almost broken, she’s almost gone

The last tune is being played, is it her song?

From Whence Come the Books

From whence come the books?

A drop of rain falls,

A plant springs up.

A tear falls, a story unfolds.

From within a soul, a mind of thought

Knowledge flows in rhythm, painting

Pictures on a page of words.

Here you have a book.

Creating a story filled with

Tears of sadness, tears of grief;

Unleased upon the world.

Tears of joy and laughter brief,

Flow across the pages,

Rushing off into streams of life,

Rippling through the ages.

A fantasy world to walk within

Misty havens of delight fill

Thoughts and sparkling waterfalls

Rush through the mind.

Then, caught in the current

Of this well of thought, do

Drink deeply from its depth,

And fulfilled, turn and offer to

A friend, this cup of wealth.

As this book was given

So in return, give

For as having received, give.

Feelings, caring, reasons to live.

Now they are shared and shared again

With other beautiful thoughts

Caught up in swift currents within.

Reaching at last the mighty river,

These words, they dance across the shore

Where at last they deliver

To the mindful reader all the wonder

Placed inside the hard cover of a

Treasure house of knowledge.

Hello Sara!

Tank you for the invitation! I have not been active much later. It is a period with lots of translations and I am trying to get as much job as possible.

ARIADNE OLIVER is known all over the world. Personally I did not know much about her. I knew that was a novel writer. I haven't any of her books.

No Agatha Christie books, Georgios, tsh, tsh, tsh, - Yes, you should! I have a collection and have shared them with many friends and gave my son a lot of them. It is my favorite reading past time to embellish her Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple mysteries. Plus, I have a collection of the movies!! I am a hopeless addict/fan.

My two wonderful sons have always been the main focus in my life from the day each was born. The love we shared, and good times we had as they were growing up, made my life worth living. I wrote this poem about one of those feelings in 1979 and placed it among the many treasures stored along the way with the happy memories.

QUIET MEMORIES

The boys and I have lots of good times together

But the ones I cherish most are those "Quiet Times."

We fixed this place, the boys and I,

On our front porch.

We strung a trellis and planted a vine

To grow a shade.

We set out plants in pots all along the front.

We set up a table, we got the chairs,

And now early every morning we have our coffee here

With the dogs, Hondo and Sparky.

Sometimes, we have the two cats to visit awhile.

We watch the birds and listen to them sing.

We talk small talk, or talk with the dogs.

It wouldn't mean much to anyone else, but to us,

It is the highlight of our day.

We wouldn't miss it for anything.

It's like being closer to God

To just sit there and listen

To the sounds of the morning waking up.

It's a closeness to God - and to each other

That we cherish; and I am so glad

That we have these "Quiet Times" together

For they make for "Quiet Memories".
