Hi Myrna.
Those rabbits can be pretty resourceful when they want to, can't they? Last year they got two different plantings of peas and then I gave up and didn't plant them this year - I think peas must be a favorite of theirs. As for beans, I usually grow pole beans as my space is limited, but they got several plantings last year. I tried surrounding them with herbs and stuff they don't like, but they were not fooled, so this year I planted the bush kind, surrounded them with a wire fence and covered it all up with remay until the plants were big enough and that worked fine.
There are so many things for them to eat in the garden area that for the most part they haven't gone under anyone's fencing except for one poor gentleman who surrounded his whole plot with chicken wire and put a lovely woven gate in front. For some reason they just had to get into his plot and so they chewed their way through the woven gate and then dug their way out. He has done very little gardening this year.
I've seen that spray advertised and it is tempting, but one of the few rules we have is that we have to grow organically. Perhaps there is some smelly organic stuff that would work like a garlic cayenne spray. Maybe I'll try that next year if they are still around. I've heard a rumor that they are going to be trapped and taken to another location, but I'll believe that when they are gone.
Thanks for the heads up.
Judy
